Install OpenOffice in Ubuntu 20.04

Step 1: Check whether Java is installed or not
java -version 

If it show Java version, it mean Java is installed, else install Java, using command

pt install openjdk-8-jdk

Now the steps below to install Open Office.

Step 2: Remove Libre Office using command
apt remove LibreOffice

Navigate to folder opt

cd /opt
Step 3: Download OpenOffice in the folder

For latest version download from the link

wget https://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/4.1.7/binaries/en-US/Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.7_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz/download

Step 4: Extract the download file
tar -xvf download

Navigate to en-US/DEBS

cd en-US/DEBS
Step 5: Install OpenOffice using command:
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Output:

Step 6: Desktop integration

For Desktop integration first navigate to desktop-integration folder

cd desktop-integration

then, install Desktop integration of OpenOffice,

dpkg -i *.deb

Output:

Step 7: Open OpenOffice

OpenOffice is installed. Search in application menu, and open OpenOffice

Click Next, the provide first and last name, and click finish.

Now OpenOffice is ready to be used.
